Labour Gains In Polls Point To Close Election Contest Come Oct

NEW ZEALAND

The governing Labour Party continues to hold a slender lead in the latest opinion polling ahead of the 14 October general election, with the party recording an improvement in fortunes following the resignation of PM Jacinda Ardern and her replacement by Chris Hipkins. The new PM has drawn ire from the left of his party for jettisoning some of the more costly environmental measures and controversial socially liberal policies of his predecessor. However, the opinion polling would indicate that this has gone down well, with centre-left Labour holding a narrow lead over the centre-right Nationals in six of the eight polls since Hipkins took office.
