Lagarde Says "Solid Majority" For ECB Hike

  • (MNI): There was a solid majority for Thursday's 25bp hike in the European Central Bank's key rates, President Christine Lagarde said, although she conceded that some Governing Council members would have preferred to pause in order to assess the effect of tightening to date.
  • Lagarde said the ECB would remain data-dependent in its policy decisions, and that rates are at a level that would help return inflation to target if held for a long-enough period. She noted however that she had not said that rates are at peak.
