LDP Policy Chief: PM Suga Unlikely To Call Snap Election In 2020

Wires reporting comments from the policy chief of Japan's governing Liberal Democratic Party:

  • Says that it is 'unlikely' that new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will call a snap general election in 2020 (the next vote for the Diet's lower house has to be held by 22 October 2021).
  • Says the LDP is not discussing the possibility of reducing the country's sales tax.
  • An extra budget may be required in 2021 depending on the impact of coronavirus if reserve fund runs out.
