Little Sign Of Last-Minute Deal As House GOP To Meet At 1400ET

US

Scott Wong at NBC News reportsthat House Republicans will hold a special conference at 1400ET (1900BST, 2000CET). There is little signal that any of the main players/factions are willing to back down at present, with a gov't shutdown looking increasingly inevitable.

  • Amy Wang at WaPo on prospects of avoiding a gov't shutdown: "In a 9-4 party-line vote, the House Rules Committee advanced a GOP-led continuing resolution that would fund the federal government for 30 days past this weekend’s deadline. It is unlikely to stave off a shutdown: Democrats do not support the bill, which contains drastic spending cuts to social programs, and hard-right GOP lawmakers are also likely to oppose it as well."
  • The White House has already confirmed that it would not approve the House bill, which would also face stiff resistance in the Democrat-controlled Senate if passed.
