LNG: Egypt Receiving Rare Nigerian LNG Cargo: Platts

Egypt is set to receive a rare 75k mt LNG cargo from Nigeria Aug. 28, the first delivery from the west African nation since June 2018, according to Platts.

  • Egypt has switched back to being a net LNG importer this summer to meet domestic power demand and avoid blackouts.
  • Egypt has purchased over 20 cargoes to date through Q3. 80% of Egypt’s LNG imports so far have come from the US.
  • The Hoegh Galleon FSRU has received 12 cargoes totalling 0.8m mt of LNG since operating at the Ain Sukhna import terminal in the Gulf of Suez in June, Platts added.
  • Egypt is expected to seek another 15-20 cargoes ahead of winter demand.
