LNG Imports Trending Higher into Winter Season

Total LNG imports into Europe have averaged just over 380mcm/d over the week to Oct 10 as European gas remains at a premium to Asia.

  • Net flows from NW Europe terminals have gradually trended higher from a dip down to near 150mcmd/d in June up to recent levels around 250mcm/d. The five year average for this time of year is approximately 80mcm/d as flows historically pick up heading into the winter season.
  • The US LNG netback to Europe is currently estimated at 37.41$/mmbtu and the netback to Asia is 25.97$/mmbtu.
  • 29 LNG tankers have already arrived into NW Europe in October with another 30 currently expected before the end of the month. Nearly 60% of the cargoes this month are from either US or Qatar.

    • NBP NOV 22 up 0.6% at 295.66p/th
    • JKM Nov 22 up 0.9% at 34.7$/mmbtu
    • JKM-TTF Nov 22 up 0.3$/mmbtu at -10.75$/mmbtu
    • US Natgas NOV 22 up 1.2% at 6.51$/mmbtu
