Lufthansa; Credit Moving Wider On Strike News, Elections on 11-Feb

TRANSPORTATION

Lufthansa (LHA GY) is seeing its curve widen this afternoon on strike news.

  • Lufthansa’s credit has had a good run of tightening since Oct-23, alongside peers, though notably AirFrance-KLM has closed the discount to LHA meaningfully over that period, too. Recent spikes in oil prices are obviously unhelpful, too.
  • Any prolonged periods of industrial action, especially if becoming nationally co-ordinated, can be meaningfully damaging to an airline. On the basis that the next Bundestag elections are on 11-Feb, this may be a more limited run, however.
