Malaysia's Muhyiddin Expected To Tender Resignation

Malaysian politics may draw attention again, with a number of local source reports noting that PM Muhyiddin is planning to tender his resignation today. Sources interviewed by the Straits Times said that ruling coalition leaders were holding meetings into Sunday night to pick a replacement before Muhyiddin's audience with the King.

  • The Star cited UMNO lawmaker Aziz as declaring his support for the current Deputy PM and UMNO Vice President Ismail Sabri Yaakob to replace Muhyiddin as the next Premier.
  • Pejuang Deputy President Marzuki Yahya said that Ismail Sabri has contacted Pejuang Chairman and ex-PM Mahathir to seek his endorsement.
  • Ismail Sabri seems to have the support of Bersatu Secretary General Zainudin, the current Minister of Home Affairs, who has been named as a candidate for Ismail Sabri's Deputy.
