Martin: No Border Poll 'Over The Next Number Of Years'

Ireland's Taoiseach (PM) Micheal Martin,speaking to France24, says "I don't foresee a border poll [the term used for a referendum on the unification of the Republic and Northern Ireland] certainly over the next number of years, not during the lifetime of this government,"

  • "Going to work hard post-Brexit to develop a bilateral, structured agreement with Britain to facilitate the ongoing workings of the British-Irish relationship".
  • Says the move from the EU to invoke Art.16 of the NI protocol to stop vaccine exports to UK, which would have put a hard-border on the island of Ireland "was a mistake by the Commission. It has acknowledged that it made a mistake."
