MEXICO: President Sheinbaum Says 2025 Budget Draft Will Reduce Fiscal Deficit

MEXICO
  • Speaking in her daily press conference, ahead of the presentation of the 2025 budget draft to Congress at 1600GMT, President Sheinbaum said that the budget will reduce the country’s fiscal deficit and include major changes in distribution. The budget draft will also guarantee welfare programs and public investment.
  • She also said that there’s no need for fiscal reform in the country if tax collection is improved. This follows comments from lower house leader Monreal yesterday that the country needs a profound fiscal reform.
  • Separately, on the decision by Moody’s to reduce the country’s sovereign rating outlook to negative, from stable, Sheinbaum said that she doesn’t know what Moody’s meant by institutional weakening in Mexico. She said that the government is working with US companies to increase investment in the country.
