Middle East Oil Tanker Surplus Shrinks

FREIGHT

The excess of supertankers in the Middle East compared to crude cargoes for the next 30 days dropped to 25% Feb. 16, according to Bloomberg.

  • This compares to 27% the previous week and a 26% average over the past year.
  • The position of available tankers has tightened significantly over the past week, sources told Bloomberg.
  • Low stockpiles, robust Chinese demand, and continued diversions around the Cape of Good are cutting the surplus.
