Milei Says Maintaining Current IMF Programme A Good Starting Point

ARGENTINA
  • Argentina’s President-elect Javier Milei has stated that he wants to keep the government’s current $43 billion IMF program and be able to rollover money owed to the multilateral lender. Milei was speaking with a radio station Wednesday morning.
    • “In principle, if they give us the rollover and maintain the agreement as it was, that would be a good starting point,” Milei told Radio La Red.
    • The government’s priority is to close the fiscal deficit and cease its dependence on money printing by the central bank.
    • Milei said fixing the Leliq overhang and closing the fiscal deficit would put the economy in a position to return to growth in six months. (BBG)
