Minister Says Talks Progressing Well Regarding Frozen EU Funds

HUNGARY

Local news site Vilaggazdasag report on a press conference from Tibor Navracsics following his meeting with European Commission officials over frozen EU funds:

  • "The discussions are progressing very well, said Tibor Navracsics... He stated that Hungary would like to successfully conclude the negotiations with the EU as soon as possible, and that he intends to reach an agreement that is suitable for both parties and meets the original deadlines."
  • “Tibor Navracsics evaluated his experience during the negotiations in such a way that, in his opinion, the European Commission's approach has changed beneficially and now shows a greater degree of commitment towards a solution.”
  • "Regarding the deadline for this, he said that there are no fixed dates, but there are already self-appointed deadlines. The Hungarian side wants to reach an agreement this year and finalize it in December."

As a reminder, he said earlier this week that while he does not expect an agreement to be reached at this specific meeting, he does see the funds being unlocked by the end of next month.
