MNI 5 Things: China Manufacturing Activities Resume Slowdown

BEIJING (MNI) - China's National Bureau of Statistics released
manufacturing and non-manufacturing PMI data on Wednesday. MNI highlights five
things:
--PMI plunged to 50.2, hovering above breakeven 50 mark, compared with 50.6
projected by MNI survey, and was down from 50.8 in September. The deceleration
reversed a trend of modest rebound in the previous two months. It's at the
lowest since 49.9 in July 2016.
--The weakness was partly due to the week-long National Day holidays. It
was also due to the slowdown in supply of some industries affected by
environmental regulations and as the demand in some industries seasonally
contracted, according to the official statement without elaborating.
--The production index dropped to 52% from 53%. New orders index
decelerated 1.2 percentage point to 50.8%. New export orders slowed by 1.1
percentage points to 46.9.
--Non-manufacturing PMI slowed to 53.9% from 54.9% in September. Still
above 50 in the expansion territory, services were backed by rising needs for
railway and flight transportation during the holiday, and for postage,
telecommunication and software, the NBS said.
--The indices of business activities in real estate, and especially the
securities industry, were in the contraction range, indicating a stagnation
housing and stock market, NBS said.
