Free AccessMNI BRIEF: BOJ Nakamura Voiced Concern Over Weaker Spending
Bank of Japan board member Toyoaki Nakamura voiced concern over weaker private consumption stemming from the prolonged presence of Covid-19 cases in Japan, as he addressed business leaders in Fukuoka City on Thursday.
Nakamura also noted that “the BOJ must pay attention to developments of financial and foreign exchange markets and their impact on Japan’s economy and prices as well as wages.”
Elsewhere, he pointed to the risk that overseas economies will deteriorate due to the tightening of global financial conditions stemming from adjustments in financial markets and fund outflows from emerging economies.
Finally, Nakamura voiced concern over the risk that the rise in resource and grain prices will be prolonged given increasing geopolitical uncertainties.
