MNI BRIEF: BOJ Needs To Keep 2% Target, Easy Policy - Kuroda

Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Thursday that it is necessary for the central bank to maintain its 2% price target, adding the target hadn't been achieved in a sustainable and stable manner despite prolonged easy policy.

Kuroda told lawmakers that the BOJ needs to maintain easy policy not only to support the economy but also to achieve the 2% price target.

He also repeated his previous view that the year-on-year rise in consumer price index will slow to below 2% in or after the fiscal 2023 year starting in April, despite Japan’s core CPI rising to 3% due to pass-through of cost increases caused by the rise in import prices.
