MNI BRIEF: Caixin August Manufacturing PMI Rises Above 50

MNI (BEIJING) - China's Caixin manufacturing PMI registered 50.4 in August, up from July’s 49.8, rising back to the expansionary zone above the 50 mark, the financial publisher said on Monday.

The production sub-index rose slightly above the breakeven 50. The new orders sub-index rose back above 50 as surveyed companies reported improvements in basic demand with the help of various promotional measures. The new export orders sub-index fell below the 50 mark for the first time this year, hitting the lowest since December 2023, mainly dragged down by the decline in external demand for consumer goods.

Caixin's PMI mainly tracks SME manufacturers. The official PMI, which was released Saturday and typically covers large state-owned companies, registered 49.1 in August, down from July's 49.4 reading.
