MNI BRIEF: China Should Accelerate Financial Market Innovation

China should promote the opening up of its financial industry by accelerating innovation in foreign exchange, securities and commodity futures markets to provide diversified trading services and risk hedging tools, said Lou Jiwei, former finance minister at the Global Asset Management Forum in Beijing on Saturday.

It is necessary to strengthen the establishment of the country's international financial centre, including innovations in offshore financial markets and allowing some international access to the onshore market, said Lou.

The government should enhance the competitiveness of domestic financial institutions to make them truly independent market players, provide equal access as markets are opened up, and strengthen services for financial institutions.
