(MNI) LONDON
(MNI) Brussels

The European Commission has threatened to impose financial sanctions on Poland over its refusal to recognise the primacy of EU over domestic Polish law as this relates to reform of the country's judicial system.

EU Vice President Vera Jourova said today that infringement procedures would be taken against Poland if it failed to comply with a European Court of Justice ruling regarding the country's judicial reforms.

Poland has until August 16 to comply with the ECJ ruling.
