MNI BRIEF: ECB 'Significant' Purchases To Continue

LONDON (MNI)

The European Central Bank asset buys under the Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme will continue at a significantly higher pace over the current quarter than during the first months of the year, the Governing Council confirmed Thursday following their April policy meeting..

Purchases will be flexible according to market conditions and with a view to preventing a tightening of financing conditions that is inconsistent with countering the downward impact of the pandemic on the projected path of inflation, the statement said. The ECB left all monetary policy settings unchanged, as expected, with the envelope of the PEPP still at EUR1.85 billion and the deposit rate unchanged at -0.5%.
