MNI BRIEF: Gentiloni Sees Subdued Growth- Trimmed Sep Forecast

(MNI) Brussels

EU Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Friday that EU economic growth would likely remain subdued this year, with only a slight pick up next year.

In a speech at an economic conference in Salzburg, he said that the EU Commission forecasts, due September 11, would likely put growth at “a little bit less than the 1.1% we were estimating in June.”

“Growth is likely to remain subdued this year - and that means between 0 and 1% - and will pick up only slightly next year. “

The commissioner noted that inflation was now “declining, but not so fast or strongly as needed.”
