MNI BRIEF: Impossible To Say If BOE To Cut In '24 -BOE's Mann
MPC hawk Catherine Mann says impossible to say whether the BOE will cut rates this year.
It is impossible to say whether the Bank of England will cut rates this year as policy will depend on economic data, Monetary Policy Committee member Catherine Mann said on Thursday.
While markets currently price a string of rate cuts, the data may not yet evolve as expected, Mann told a Q&A at an OMFIF event in London. But she added that policy changes by the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank could also affect her future voting on the MPC.
Mann has long been considered the most hawkish member of the MPC, voting along with Jonathan Haskel for a 25 bps hike in February. The MPC's lone vote for a cut this month, Swati Dhingra, speaks at an MNI Connect event later in February. (See INVITE: Livestreamed MNI Connect VC with BoE Dhingra On Feb 21)
