MNI BRIEF: Kuroda: BOJ To Buy Foreign Green Bonds

(MNI) Tokyo
TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan will purchase foreign green bonds issued by both foreign governments and aligned institutions under current guidance, Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Tuesday.

The BOJ will, along with other global central banks, strengthen efforts "to promote investment in climate-related financial products, such as green bonds, with the aim of fostering the development of financial markets," Kuroda told the Japan Press Club.

Given the increase in global green bond issuance, likely to be an ongoing trend, the BOJ will boost its investments in the sector, he said.
