Martin Schlegel has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Swiss National Bank’s Governing Board, with Petra Gerlach and Attilio Zanetti becoming Alternate Members of the Governing Board, in a move designed to “ensure continuity,” the central bank said Wednesday.

Schlegel joined the SNB 20 years ago and has been Deputy Head of Zurich-based Department I under Chair Thomas Jordan since 2018. He will now head up Department II, which is largely based in Berne. He replaces Fritz Zurbruegg, who steps down in the summer.

Gerlach has been Deputy Head of the Economic Affairs division since October 2020, having previously served as Head of the SNB’s Monetary Policy Analysis unit. Attilio Zanetti joined the Bank in 1994 and was named Head of the International Monetary Cooperation division two years ago.
