MNI BRIEF: Too Soon To Say EU Will Have Soft Landing-Gentiloni

It is too early to say whether the EU economy will have a soft landing or not, Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Wednesday.

“It’s a little bit early to understand what kind of a landing we will have. We avoided a severe recession in the EU, but still we have figures on growth which are very, very low. We are not yet at the moment – hopefully next year - of restarting growth. How fast we will pass from contraction to growth it is very early to identify," he said.

EU Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis also told reporters that he expected only a “modest” and “gradual” rebound next year.

Their comments come ahead of the Commission’s next set of economic forecasts on November 15.
