MNI DATA BRIEF: U.S. Jobless Claims Set New Pandemic Low

(MNI) WASHINGTON

First time claims for U.S. jobless benefits fell in the latest week to a new post-pandemic low of 444,000, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday, in a further sign of steady improvement in the labor market that the Fed is likely to welcome.

St. Louis Fed President James Bullard told MNI in an interview this week he expects employment growth to pick up steam later this year after a surprisingly weak reading for April.
