UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid both said they were resigning on Tuesday, in a fresh blow to Boris Johnson's embattled premiership.

Their resignations came after Johnson survived a vote of no confidence by the parliamentary Conservative Party in June, only to face two by-election defeats and a scandal over allegedly inappropriate behaviour by a senior MP.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi will replace Sunak as Chancellor and Steve Barclay will become Secretary of State for Health, the government said.
