MNI BRIEF: Ukraine-Hit States To Get Higher RRF Grant-Brussels

The impact of the war in Ukraine will have an impact on the final share-out of Recovery Fund grants among member states, EU Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Monday. In comments to the European Parliament, Gentiloni said the Commission was working to identify “additional reforms and investments” which could be undertaken by states to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and diversify sources of fossil fuel imports.

These additional reforms and investments to ensure greater security of energy supplies would mean some changes to the remaining 30% of the grant allocation of the RRF. “Member States ultimately less affected by the crisis will have a somewhat lower grant allocation than originally estimated, and those harder hit a higher grant allocation,” the commissioner said.

The Commission will establish the final numbers in July this year.
