MNI BRIEF: US Lawmakers Push To Certify Election Tonight

(MNI) WASHINGTON
(MNI)

Members of Congress are pushing to restart tonight the process to certify the results of the 2020 elections, as the city of Washington is under curfew and the national guard and other federal agencies are being deployed.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said lawmakers "have decided we should proceed tonight at the Capitol once it is cleared for use" and additional guidance about timing will be sent later today. "The night may still be long but we are hopeful for a shorter agenda, but our purpose will be accomplished," she added in a letter to her colleagues.
