MNI BRIEF: Rosengren Sees Longer Drag on US From Pandemic

(MNI)

Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren said Friday the virus may continue to determine the path of the economy for longer than previously hoped, despite the announcement of multiple vaccines.

"The evolution of the virus will continue to determine the course of the economy through the middle of the year, as the U.S. and our trading partners continue to grapple with the continually evolving public health crisis," said Rosengren, who is not a voting FOMC member this year.

"The persistent severity of the pandemic continues to limit individuals' willingness to venture much beyond their own residence, with many people preferring to shelter at home while waiting for the supply of vaccines to catch up with demand."
