MNI: China Yuan CFETS Index Slumps Fastest On Record
BEIJING (MNI) - A currency index of China's yuan saw the biggest weekly
drop on record last week, on a trade-weighted basis against the currencies of
its major trading partners, according to data released Monday by the People's
Bank of China.
The CFETS Weekly RMB Index, which measures the yuan relative to a basket of
24 currencies, fell by 1.77% on June 29 from the previous week to 95.66, the
lowest since the week of Jan 19 this year.
The 1.77% slump was the biggest drop since the index was created on
December 11, 2015.
That said, the RMB gauge has recorded a 0.85% gain year-to-date as of last
Friday, up from 94.85 on Dec 29, according to MNI's calculations.
