MNI DATA BRIEF: Caixin China May PMI Rises To Highest In 2021

BEIJING (MNI)

The Caixin China PMI for May edged up 0.1 point to 52.0 from the previous month, the strongest level so far in 2021 and the 13th consecutive month above the breakeven 50.0 level, indicating that manufacturing activity continued to recover steadily, publisher Caixin said in an email announcement on Tuesday.

The higher PMI was supported by increased demand at home and abroad. The new order sub-index hit the highest in 2021, while the new export order sub-index was the most since December 2020. The growth rate of new business volume is the strongest in five months, enterprises said.

Caixin's PMI, which tracks small and medium-sized manufacturers, compares with the official PMI released on Monday, which fell 0.1 to 51.0 in May from April.
