MNI DATA BRIEF: Canada Mar Factories & Wholesales Seen Gaining

MNI (Ottawa)
OTTAWA (MNI)

Canadian manufacturing sales likely rose 3.5% in March, the fastest gain in nine months, reflecting a rebound in auto production and stronger demand for energy even amid the third wave of Covid.

The economist consensus mirrors Statistics Canada's earlier flash estimate, and the official figures are due at 830am EST on Friday. Factory sales fell 1.6% in February. Industry sources told MNI there are signs of resilience as firms adapt to new health measures.

Wholesale sales also expected to increase 0.9% after a 0.7% decline in February, gains that some economists predict will reverse in April as some regions imposed tighter social distancing rules again as Covid-19 cases climbed.
