MNI DATA IMPACT: China PMI Steady; Production Expands

BEIJING (MNI) - China's Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) rose to 50.2 in
December, continuing last month's momentum as underlying demand grows, data
released on Tuesday showed.
MNI highlights the following key points in the statement from the official
statistics bureau:
--The Production sub-index, driven by more active supplies and demands
before Chinese traditional New Year holiday, accelerated to 53.2 from the
previous 52.6.
--New orders rose 51.2 in December, barely changed from last month's 51.3,
mirroring a warming market for manufacturing products.
--Export orders jumped to 50.3 from the 48.8 recorded in November, helped
by increased Christmas orders from overseas.
--Non-manufacturing PMI rose 53.3 in December, slower than last month's
54.4. The PMI was dragged lower by weaker service demand in the architecture
industry, cold weather and new year holiday factors.
