MNI DATA IMPACT: Japanese Consumer Confidence Higher In Sept

TOKYO (MNI)

Japan's consumer confidence index rose in September to a seasonally adjusted 32.7 after dipping to 29.3 in August, the latest Consumer Confidence Survey published by the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

Consumers were more optimistic on all the four key sentiment sectors; overall economic well-being, labour market conditions, income conditions and the timing of buying durable goods.

The Cabinet Office upgraded its assessment from the previous month, noting that consumer sentiment remained severe but the recovery continues.

The sub-index on asset prices, not included in calculating overall consumer confidence, rose 2.4 points to 35.9 after gaining 0.3 points to 33.5 in August.

The share of respondents projecting consumer price gains fell to 72.8% in September after rising 1.4 points to 75.1% in August. The share of respondents forecasting lower prices stood at 9.3% in September, unchanged from 9.3% in August.
