MNI Global Morning Briefing

MNI (London)
LONDON (MNI) - Global Morning Briefing
At 1000BST Eurostat releases final Eurozone April inflation data as well as
data figures on construction output within the currency bloc. The US publishes
both leading indicator data and the preliminary Michigan Sentiment Index at
1500BST.
No surprises expected for final EZ inflation
Final inflation data in the EZ is expected to register in line with the
flash estimates of 0.7% m/m and 1.7% y/y, which would be the highest annual
growth rate since November 2018. In March, HICP decelerated slightly by 0.1pp
and grew by 1.4% y/y.
The Eurozone's construction output rose 3.0% on the month, revealing the
fastest growth rate since February 2017, boosted by unseasonably good weather.
Annual output increased by 5.2% in February after a contraction in January
(-0.1%). February's boost shifted the series above their long-term series
average.
Leading Index and Michigan Sentiment about to rise?
The US leading indicator index is expected to rise by 0.2% in April, with
positive contributions from lower jobless claims and higher stock prices and
consumer expectations, offset by a sharp decline in the ISM new orders index.
The Michigan Sentiment index is expected to rise to a reading of 97.7 in
early-May from 97.2 in April.
Europe's highlight in terms of speeches is ECB's de Guindos, with NY Fed's
Williams and US Fed's Clarida are worth noting in the US.
