MNI POLITICAL RISK ANALYSIS-Week Ahead 5-11 December

All timings subject to change.

Monday 5 December:

  • Russia: Significant measures regarding Russia’s oil exports come into force, with EU and UK sanctions barring the transport or import of Russian seaborne crude oil, and a cap on Russian oil prices agreed to by the G7 and Australia. The cap, coming in at USD60/bbl has been the subject of intense negotiation at the EU level, and is intended to allow nations that have not imposed a ban to continue to buy oil at the capped price, eschewing a global price spike that could come with a total ban.
  • Eurozone: Eurogroup meeting of eurozone finance ministers takes place in Brussels. Ministers set to vote on the next Eurogroup President. Incumbent Paschal Donohoe from Ireland is expected to be elected to a second term, despite being set to be moved on from the Irish Finance Ministry in an upcoming government reshuffle. Ministers to also discuss the overall budgetary situation of the eurozone and hear Commission recommendations on economic policy for 2023.
