Monday 8 January:

  • Middle East: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken continues his week-long tour to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East as he seeks to calm tensions surrounding the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, Houthi attacks on shipping in and around the Red Sea, and a volatile Iran following the terrorist bombings in Kerman claimed by Islamic State. On 8 January, Blinken meets with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Al Ula. This follows visits to Turkey, Greece, Jordan and Qatar, and presages trips to Israel, the West Bank, and Egypt.
