MNI Publishes Election Preview

POLAND

Poland holds its general election on 15 October in a vote that is being painted as one of the most significant in many years. The choice for voters is a stark one between the incumbent right-wing populist Law and Justice party, and a broad coalition of opposition forces from the centre-right, centre, and left of the political spectrum seeking to oust PM Mateusz Morawiecki and his government. The election outcome will have notable consequences for the direction of Polish policy making with regards to relations with the European Union (and ability to unlock frozen funds), the prospect of further judicial reforms, the trajectory of Poland’s fiscal outlook, and relations with neighbouring states in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

  • In this preview we provide a briefing of how the election works, the main parties involved, a chartpack of opinion polling, and probabilities and analysis of post-election scenarios, and key sell-side analyst views.
