disappointing market expectations for a small monthly rise
- Despite having also declined in Feb (-1.0% m/m), a sharp 3.6% m/m expansion in
- ... means that output for Q1 as a whole rose by 1.0% q/q, after having
contracted by 0.7% q/q in Q4
- Four of the five main sectors saw output contract in Mar, with durable
consumer goods recording the largest decrease (-2.7%)
- The only sector to see an increase was intermediate goods (+0.2%)
- On the year, energy (-9.9%) was the weakest performing sector, while capital
(+0.5%) and intermediate (+0.2%) goods posted small gains
