U.S. weekly jobless claims filed through June 6 reached 1.542 million, the Labor

Department reported Thursday, slowing from the previous week's 1.897 million

level. Continuing claims, counting unemployed workers who have received at least

one week of benefits, fell slightly to 20.9 million through May 30 after

reaching 21.3 million through May 23. Claimants claiming Pandemic Unemployment

Assistance fell to 705,676 through June 6 from 796,813 through May 30, pushing

the total number of initial claims filed through June 6 to 2.25 million.
