Moldova Replenish Reserves With Gas Imports From West: Deputy PM

NATURAL GAS

Moldova has been looking to replace Russian gas imports from the West to replenish natural gas reserves to secure supply during the 2022/2023 winter period.

  • "The myth that Moldova can only import gas from Russia has been destroyed. We have recently imported natural gas using a reverse system, from the West to East, for the first time,” Moldovan Deputy Primer Minister Andrei Spinu said.
  • “Energocom purchased 5.6mcm of gas, which was transferred through the point in Budnice, Slovakia, on the border with Ukraine," Spinu said.
  • Current natural gas reserves stood at 157mcm, equivalent to around five weeks of winter consumption.
  • Gazprom confirmed the supply to Moldova of 171mcm of gas in November, whereas the country, including the Transdniestrian region, needs 334mcm, according to Energocom.
