Mozambique's First LNG Cargo Imminent

Mozambique is set for the arrival of an LNG vessel this month to load the countries first LNG cargo from Coral-Sul.

  • The vessel, British Mentor, operated by BP is due for arrival August 24.
  • The vessel is set to arrive at Eni’s new floating terminal off the coast called Coral-Sul.
  • Eni are looking are already looking at developing a second LNG terminal in the country – possibly in the next four years.
  • BP in 2016 signed a deal to buy all of the output for 20 years from Coral-Sul, which is designed to produce 3.4 million metric tons of LNG.
  • The project will benefit from surging demand for LNG and soaring prices driven primarily by EU and US sanctions against Russian gas.
