AUSTRALIA: NAB writes "wages posted weaker-than-expected growth in Q4 of 0.5%,
with annual growth unchanged at 2.3%. The result was a slight disappointment for
the RBA, which had forecast annual growth of 2.4%. Wage growth has picked up,
with survey data and anecdotal evidence pointing to a further improvement,
consistent with our modelling that shows a reduced drag on wages from labour
market slack. The issue for the RBA, though, is that the improvement in wages is
likely too slow to dispel its ongoing concern over the outlook for consumer
spending."
