NATO, EU Heads Cool On China 'Peace Plan'

Both NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have given little credence to the 14-point 'peace plan' announced for the war in Ukraine by Beijing overnight (see 0848GMT bullet). Speaking in Tallinn, Estonia, VdL stated that 'China shared its principles, not a peace plan for Ukraine...China has already taken [a] side for Russia, we have to view their principles in that light.'

  • Stoltenberg said on the plan that 'China does not have much credibility because they have not condemned the invasion of Ukraine.' Adds that "We have not seen actual delivery of lethal aid. But what we have seen are signs and indications that China may be planning and consider supplying military aid to Russia."
