Netherlands Proposes Updated Gas Price Cap Targeting Storage

The Netherlands has proposed to cap gas transactions of government-backed gas buyers and companies obliged by law to buy gas to fill storage below the gas price cap proposed by the EU, according to a proposal seen by Reuters.

  • The Dutch proposal has argued that the race to fill gas reserves this summer has contributed to surging gas prices.
  • The proposal does not state a price level, which is targeted to be reviewed each month.
  • The EU aims to make a final decision on the gas price cap on 13 Dec.
