Netherlands Want Unanimous Oil Ban

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte still wants a unanimous decision on the EU oil ban rather than a fractured approach. Germany has been vocal about pursuing an oil ban even if they could not get unanimous support from the EU 27.

  • “I still think that should be done at a level of the (EU) 27 also because formally, legally we need unanimity on this and I still think it is possible to get there." Rutte said at a news conference in Dublin this week.
  • Rutte believed the EU can agree on a sixth sanctions package against Russia this week.
