New Interior Minister Sworn In Amidst Continued Political Tensions

- Another impeachment motion was filed against President Boluarte yesterday, amidst an ongoing criminal investigation against the President over an alleged cover-up in the hours before her brother’s recent arrest. The motion was signed by a small group of lawmakers who have in the past unsuccessfully tried to oust the President.
- For BBVA, their inclination is for a softer PEN, although they note that BCRP has worked to limit any depreciation. They prefer to enter short PEN positions at better levels, preferably nearer 3.68, adding that the current 3.60-3.90 range seems well established, with a narrower channel at 3.68-3.78.
- In other news, Juan Jose Santivanez was sworn in as the country’s new interior minister by President Boluarte yesterday. Santivanez previously served as interior deputy minister. The previous interior minister Walter Ortiz had only been in the role for a month and a half.
