UK: New opinion poll from YouGov puts support for Scottish independence ahead of
opposition for the first time since 2015.
- For question 'Should Scotland be an independent county? 51% of respondents
said 'yes' to 49% saying 'no'.
- The shift seems to have come from anti-Brexiteers. The poll shows 20% of
Remain (both in the EU in 2016 vote and UK in 2014 vote) voters now support
independence.
- This number outweighs the 30% of Leave (both the EU in 2016 and UK in 2014)
voters now supportive of remaining in the UK.
- Referendum on Scot independence unlikely in 2020, but could come about after
May 2021 Scottish parliament elections should pro-independence parties win a
majority.
