New Zealand's Labour Party Pledges To Raise Taxes On Top Earners

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand's Finance Minister Grant Robertson wrote in a statement that the Labour government would impose a new highest tax rate of 39% on income above NZ$180,000, which would affect the top 2% of earners. The plan is expected to bring an additional NZ$550mn into New Zealand's coffers annually.

  • The announcement of the government's tax policy proposal was expected and the scale of the move is relatively modest. All other tax rates would remain the same.
